    Distinguishing Characteristics:

    This class differs from the Chemical Treatment Worker I in that the Chemical Treatment Worker II independently performs chemical treatment work at sites such as golf courses, water supply sources/installations, and other selected work sites where the highest level of care and skill must be exercised, as quality of chemical treatment care is critical and consequences of error extensive; whereas the Chemical Treatment Worker I mixes, sprays, and applies a variety of chemicals to park and grounds areas in general.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

    The following are examples of duties and are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in this class.     *Independently mixes, sprays, and applies a variety of insecticides, fungicides, herbicides and fertilizers to greens, grasses, shrubbery, underbrush, trees and other areas at sites such as golf courses, water supply source/installations, and other selected work sites.

    *Identifies nature and extent of diseases and infestations.

    *Surveys areas to be treated, and estimates kinds and amounts of chemicals required.

    *Orders chemicals to replenish inventory.

    *Assists in setting work priorities and determining schedules for application of chemicals.

    *Maintains complete and accurate records and prepares work reports showing hours worked, equipment used, and areas treated.

    *Provides informational and advisory input regarding interaction of chemical treatment program with general groundskeeping operations.

    *Operates a light or medium truck and other light motorized vehicles including scooter, self contained spray rigs and small tractors.

    *May supervise others assisting in the mixing, spraying and application of chemicals, in loading and unloading of supplies and equipment, etc.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    Training and Experience:
    Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to show competence in the care, maintenance and beautification of landscaped and natural areas, including the spraying and application of a variety of agricultural chemicals.

    License Requirement:
    Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license (Type 3);
    Certification in the appropriate category as a Commercial Applicator of Restricted Pesticides, as required.

    Knowledge of:

        ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:

        The Equipment Manager is is responsible for all facets of equipment operation, repair, maintenance of golf course equipment and maintenance facility.

        RESPONSIBILITIES:

                          Kohanaiki is seeking an individual to join our Golf Course Maintenance Staff as an
                          Assistant Golf Course Mechanic.

                          As a member of the golf course maintenance team, the Assistant Mechanic will be
                          responsible for helping maintain all equipment used by Golf Course Maintenance,
                          Landscaping, and Ponds Maintenance, as directed by the Equipment Manager. This
                          includes meeting or exceeding the established standards for members, guests and
                          employee satisfaction. The Assistant Mechanic is an integral part of the Maintenance
                          Operation and functions as a key player on our team. Additional duties may be assigned
                          as required.

                          Responsibilities:

                          * Provide training to all staff members on the safe and proper operation of the
                          equipment.
                          * The Assistant Mechanic must lead by example and help set the benchmark of
                          performance in areas of innovation, motivation and animation.
                          * The Assistant Mechanic will function as a coach in encouraging team members to
                          be diligent with equipment care and operation.
                          * The Assistant Mechanic will assist the Equipment Manager with the review of
                          operational challenges and recommend solutions.
                          * The Assistant Mechanic will help identify and correct performance problems
                          under the Equipment Manager’s supervision, complete repairs/adjustments and
                          help insure all equipment is being properly cleaned.
                          * The Assistant Mechanic will help the Equipment Manager maintain records of
                          repairs, equipment and parts inventory, preventative maintenance, and
                          fuel/lubricant usage.
                          * The Assistant Mechanic will help maintain a clean, safe and orderly work
                          environment.
                          * The Assistant Mechanic will help the Equipment Manager insure departmental
                          compliance with OSHA.
                          Requirements:
                          * High school diploma or equivalent.
                          * Must have a valid Hawaii driver’s license to operate utility carts and trucks.
                          * Able to demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of equipment repair and
                          maintenance through references and work history.
                          * Must be self-motivated and able to supervise the duties of direct reports.
                          * Able to interact positively with the public and teammates.

                            PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

                            Under general supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent, participates and assists in supervising all maintenance programs for the golf course.

                            MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION

                            *Per maintenance specifications, directs and supervises the maintenance of greens, traps, tees, fairways, bodies of water, roughs, maintenance shop and yard, clubhouse grounds and associated areas.

                            *Oversees operation and maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems.

                            *Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other operation of other equipment.

                            *Supervises pesticide application and calibration of pesticide application equipment.

                            *Supervises fertilizer formulations and applications.

                            *Oversees maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment.

                            *Assists in planning and layout of golf course construction and maintenance work.

                            *Keeps records and prepares reports.

                            *Aids in maintaining security of golf course property and buildings.

                            *Maintains good public relations with customers and the community.

                            *Plays and understands the game of golf.

                            *Helps to develop the maintenance plan and course maintenance budget.

                              Job Description

                              1. Organization and Purpose

                              The Assistant Superintendent assists the Superintendent in all matters relating to the golf course, including managing the entire playing surface of the course greens, entrance areas, landscaping, structures, equipment and personnel.

                              2. Scope and Impact

                              The Assistant Superintendent assists the Superintendent with the responsibility of managing the property and personnel assigned to maintenance of the grounds.

                              3. Essential Functions

                              Property Management

                              *Ensures that the entire playing surface of the course greens, tees, fairways, rough, bunkers and surrounding areas are up to PLI standards.
                              *Maintains outer areas such as the entrance, roads, parking lots, lakes, streams and driving range to ensure safety and appearance.
                              *Manages landscaping including planning, planting, maintenance and removal of ornamental materials.
                              *Ensures that structures - buildings, fences, bridges and shelters - are functional.
                              *Handles purchase, storage, inventory and maintenance of equipment.

                              Department Operations

                              *Record keeping - Expenses, weather, chemical applications, inventories, EPA and OSHA, and any other regulatory items not yet listed.
                              *Communications - adequate contact with golfers, Director of Operations and other staff members. Responsibilities may be modified to fit Pacific Links Hawaii needs as deemed by Corporate office.

                              Managerial

                              *Directly supervises employees within the department.
                              *Interviews, evaluates, hires and orients new staff.
                              *Trains and develops staff to foster personal goals and professional development.
                              *Conducts evaluations of support staff and recruit as necessary.
                              *Applies managerial oversight on work results and takes corrective action as necessary.
                              *Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Company’s policies, training programs and applicable laws.
                              *Attends local meetings, conferences, field days and equipment shows for continuing education.

                              Qualifications

                              *High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
                              *2 to 4-year degree in Agricultural or related sciences.
                              *Agronomy/plant/soil sciences/horticulture or turf grass management certification.
                              *Hawaii State Commercial Applicator’s License Category #3.
                              *Knowledge of principles involved in construction of greens, tees and fairways.
                              *Knowledge and appreciation of the game of golf, its rules and regulations.
                              *Minimum two years’ experience in golf course/grounds maintenance and ability to properly maintain a golf course to championship standards.
