This position reports to the Grounds Superintendent and is responsible for performing a variety of golf course maintenance tasks to ensure optimal playing conditions and appearance. The position provides guidance to co-workers on tasks as directed by the Superintendent. This position is for someone who has career ambitions to be a golf course superintendent.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
* Demonstrate proper techniques, knowledge sharing, and supporting completion of daily assignments as directed by the Grounds Superintendent.
* Monitor and assure quality levels are met regarding job assignments and reports back to the Grounds Superintendent of any problems or concerns.
* Assist with construction or renovation projects by performing assigned tasks and monitoring progress as directed by the Grounds Superintendent.
* Communicate any priorities or concerns regarding the safe and proper operation of equipment with the Head or Assistant Mechanic.
* Monitor and service the irrigation system, pump stations and wells including setting up nightly watering programs as required.
* Applies fertilizers and pesticides to all playing surfaces and grounds.
* Promotes safety awareness. Participate in and support regular safety training by sharing knowledge, demonstrating safe work practices, and reinforcing safety procedures as directed. Follow through & correct any unsafe work practices.
* Serves as point of contact for the department in the temporary absence of the Grounds Superintendent, relaying information and ensuring assigned tasks continue as planned.
* May attend special meetings and seminars as required.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Working in conjunction with other departments based on the needs of the Club and golf course.
* Manage time effectively and safely to prepare the golf course.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
* No direct reports
* This position provides guidance to staff and supervision of department operations.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Certification or continuing education in the field of golf course maintenance.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Must possess knowledge in all aspects of golf course and landscape maintenance.
* Ability to monitor the irrigation system and help set up nightly watering programs, as required.
* Must understand the game of golf.
* Ability to effectively communicate, counsel and motivate employees as needed.
* Must have mechanical aptitude.
* Ability to follow oral and written directions.
* Ability to use good judgment and to work in a responsible and safe manner.
* Ability to communicate and conduct yourself with fellow employees, supervisors, and guests in a respectful manner.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
* Must possess a valid driver’s license.
* State of Hawaii Certificate for Commercial Applicator of Restricted Pesticide license.
EQUIPMENT USED:
* Ability to operate landscaping maintenance equipment and implements.
* Walk Spreaders, Hand Spray booms, Riding Sprayers, Mowers, Excavators, Carts, Dump Trucks. Others to be trained and assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
* Frequent standing and walking.
* Frequent finger dexterity when operating equipment.
* Regularly carrying and lifting up to 50 lbs.
* Occasional bending, reaching.
* Walking in chemical-resistant suits and respirators.
COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:
* Frequent interaction with employees, members and guests.
* Ability to receive and give written and verbal instructions.
* Read, write, and speak English language fluently.
MENTAL DEMANDS:
* Frequent attention to detail, alertness, concentration.
* Frequent awareness of safety measures.

* Frequent exposure to outside weather conditions.
* Occasional dust, humidity.
* Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
* Frequent noise from work environment (moderate to loud).
* Smoking environment (in designated areas).
