Makalei Golf Club is a breathtakingly beautiful golf course on the western slopes of Hualalai Mountain on Hawaii Island. Designed by Dick Nugent & Associates, the course reflects the raw, natural beauty of Hawaii Island, incorporating native forests, mountain slopes, and unique volcanic features such as lava tubes and cinder cones.

The Club was recently purchased and is developing a plan for major improvements as well as enhanced maintenance practices.

Position Details

Must possess strong leadership skills and be an excellent communicator (written & oral) who is well organized and able to multitask. Responsible for all activities related to the care and maintenance of the golf course, grounds, and equipment. Hire, train and supervise staff. Plan and implement budgets. Apply agronomic, landscaping, and horticultural principles to assure that quality standards are consistently achieved and/or exceeded. Maintain a safe, productive work environment and ensure that market position standards are met, and the golf course continually improves.

Must be able to operate mowers, trucks, sprayers and other motorized equipment necessary for golf course maintenance and have the ability to work independently.

The candidate must have good project management skills and be able to work in a high paced progressive environment. The position requires the ability to frequently lift/move up to 50 lbs.

Experience: Minimum of 2-5 years of prior superintendent or assistant superintendent experience required

Education: 2–4-year degree in Turfgrass Management or Agronomics preferred
